Terms of Service
This is a translation. The Japanese version is the governing text; in case of any discrepancy, the Japanese version prevails.
Effective date: October 23, 2026
Last revised: October 24, 2026
1. Definitions
- "Operator": the person who provides the App under the trade name Pochiren
- "App": "Pochiren — Standard Japanese Accent Practice", the Japanese pitch-accent and intonation practice app provided by the Operator
- "User": a person who uses the App
- "Paid Plan": the features available through a subscription or a one-time purchase
2. Agreement to These Terms
Users use the App on the basis that they have agreed to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
3. Age Requirement
The App is intended for users aged 13 and over. Users aged 13 to 17 must use the App with the consent of a parent or guardian. Users under 13 may not use the App.
4. Fees and Purchases
- The App is free to use. With the free version, you can practice (record your voice and receive a score) up to 10 times per day. Features other than practice can be used without a limit on the number of times.
- For 7 days from the day you first use the App, you can practice without a daily limit on the number of times, while remaining on the free version. No sign-up or payment is required for use during this period.
- With a Paid Plan, the daily limit on practice is removed. There are three Paid Plans. All prices include tax.
- Monthly plan: 980 yen (a subscription that renews automatically every month)
- Annual plan: 6,800 yen (a subscription that renews automatically every year)
- One-time purchase: 9,800 yen (a single payment, with no renewal)
- Payment is processed through Google Play.
- A subscription renews automatically unless it is canceled before the next renewal date.
- A subscription is canceled from the subscription management screen in Google Play. If you cancel partway through a period, you can keep using the App until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- A one-time purchase is a plan you can use with a single payment, with no renewal fees or ongoing payments. You can use it for as long as the App is provided. Section 10 sets out what happens when the App is discontinued. This does not guarantee that the App will be provided in the future or that it can be used forever.
- Except as provided in Section 10, refunds follow Google Play's refund policy.
5. Leaves
“Leaves” in the App are given free of charge through your use of the App and can be used only within the App. They cannot be purchased with money, and they cannot be exchanged for cash, refunded, or transferred to anyone else. They are lost when you clear the App's data, uninstall the App, or when the App is discontinued.
6. Prohibited Acts
Users must not do any of the following.
- Reverse engineering the App (analyzing it to extract how it works), modifying it, or redistributing it
- Avoiding payment by improper means
- Acts that violate laws or public order and morals
- Acts that infringe the rights of the Operator or third parties
- Acts that interfere with the operation of the App
7. Intellectual Property
Rights in the App, its characters, practice sentences, and similar materials belong to the Operator or the rightful owners. These Terms grant Users the right to use the App; they do not transfer any of those rights.
8. About Scoring Results
The App's scoring results are a guide for practicing pronunciation. We do not guarantee that they are accurate, that they suit any particular purpose, or that you will improve.
9. Disclaimer and Limit of Liability
- Where the Operator is liable to a User for damages in connection with the App, the upper limit of compensation set out in this Section does not apply if the Operator acted intentionally or with gross negligence. Only where the damage is caused by the Operator's slight negligence (negligence other than intentional acts or gross negligence), the Operator will compensate the direct and ordinary damage actually suffered by the User, and the amount of compensation will not exceed the upper limit set out in the next paragraph.
- The upper limit of compensation in the preceding paragraph is, for the monthly plan and the annual plan, the total amount the User actually paid for that plan during the 12 months before the damage occurred; however, if that total is less than 10,000 yen, the limit is 10,000 yen. For a one-time purchase, regardless of how much time has passed since the purchase, the limit is the purchase price of that one-time purchase. For a User who uses the App free of charge, the limit is 10,000 yen.
- The upper limit of compensation in the preceding paragraph does not apply where a User suffers damage to life or body.
10. Changes to and Termination of the Service
- When necessary, the Operator may change the content of the App or stop providing the App.
- When we stop providing the App, we will, in principle, give notice in the App or on the official website at least 30 days before the planned end date. However, if advance notice is difficult because of a failure, a legal requirement, or other unavoidable circumstances, we will give notice promptly after the end.
- When the Operator decides to stop providing the App (except where the proviso of the preceding paragraph applies), before the end we will release a final version in which all Paid Plan features are available to all Users. The final version will continue to work on the devices where the App is installed at that time, but we do not guarantee that it will keep working under later updates of devices or the OS.
- When the Operator decides to stop providing the App, we will refund the full purchase price to Users who bought a one-time purchase within one year before the day the App is discontinued. We will explain how refunds are made in the notice under paragraph 2.
- We will make sure that subscriptions are not renewed after the day the App is discontinued.
11. Changes to These Terms
The Operator may change these Terms. When we do, we will notify you in the App or by another method set by the Operator. If you continue to use the App after a change, you are deemed to have agreed to the change.
12. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. If a dispute arises concerning the App, the Niigata District Court is the exclusive agreed court of first instance.

14. Translation
These Terms are written in Japanese, and the Japanese version is the governing text. Japanese is the prevailing language. The Operator may provide translations of these Terms into languages other than Japanese (not limited to English), and may add further languages in the future. Every translation, in any language, including this English version, is provided for reference only. If a translation and the Japanese version differ, the Japanese version prevails.
